SENTOSA: TRENDY MALAYSIAN DESTINATION

SPONSOR'S LINK: SENTOSA

Looking for a Malaysian spin on Bangkok Thai's offerings? Cross the street and look for Sentosa, a local favorite at 39-07 Prince Street.

As with Bangkok Thai, you can start off with roti canai (Indian flatbread/pancake served with curry at $3.50.

If this is the start of your journey at Sentosa, consider first trying Pineapple Fried Rice ($10.00), where the sweet notes of the pineapple and raisins play nicely with slightly-spicy medley of rice, shrimp, egg, squid, and fresh basil.

No worries if you’re not in the mood for pineapples or spicy foods. The Hainanese chicken here is another must-order, offering ridiculously tender white chicken meat* (going for $6.00 for half/single serving).

Feeling like venturing out of your comfort zone? Try the refreshing $6.00 young coconut drink, a healthy beverage served right out of the shell (no one will judge if you use a spoon to chip away at the tender coconut meat inside! Yay extra electrolytes!). For the play-it-safe crowd, ask for $3.50 coconut juice.

As for service, one downside here is seating. Even if you bring your guests during quieter hours, staff here usually cramps your party towards the front window seating section. To avoid this fate, arrive in a group of four or more—the staff will then be happy to seat you in the bigger back tables or on the second floor.

May Flushing Food suggest: hopping over to Bangkok Thai for Thai iced tea after dining at Sentosa. It’s the same beverage, just for $0.75 less.
