66 LU’S SEAFOOD: QUICK TAIWANESE COMFORT GRUB

You can’t always be in Taipei when a sudden craving for Taiwanese comfort food strikes. If you can overlook tired décor in favor of lightning-quick service, make your way over to 66 Lu’s Seafood at 38-18 Prince Street.

True, no food could even come close to the xiaoci (小吃) at world-famous Taiwanese night markets like Shilin Yeshi (士林夜市). But, on this side of the Atlantic, how many options do you have for savory munchies like oyster pancakes (pictured below; a variation on oyster omelettes), pork chop over rice, beef with tomatoes, and tea eggs?

While mulling your other greasy options over, chew on this: 66 Lu’s Seafood is one of the very few places in New York to get your (first?) fix of stinky tofu, or choudofu (臭豆腐).

Compared to the three other alternatives in Flushing, this Taiwanese-style joint will probably deliver your fried goodies the quickest. Go ahead and gross out your date or friends. Or momentarily appease your Taiwanese in-laws.

May Flushing Food suggest: That you bring along at least one person who can speak Mandarin Chinese.
